It remains a mystery why thousands of birds fell from the sky and had been found lifeless this past weekend break within the small Arkansas town of Beebe.
The AP reports:Mike Robertson, the mayor in Beebe, told The Related Press the final dead bird was removed about 11 a.m. Sunday in the town about 40 miles northeast of Small Rock. He stated 12 to 15 workers, hired by the city to do the cleanup, wore environmental-protection suits for the task. The birds had fallen Friday night over a 1-mile area of Beebe, and an aerial study indicated that no other dead birds had been found outside of that region. The workers from U.S. Environmental Services started the cleanup Saturday.
One theory is New Year's Eve fireworks may have spooked the birds and caused significant stress. The birds seemed to show physical injury though, so a freak lightning or hail storm is another possible trigger.
